Preschool

In March, 2010, I moved Danica to a preschool. Unfortunately, and although I loved the director, I began to notice that Danica's teacher did not offer a specific curriculum in her classroom. She had a routine that included circle time and time outdoors, but I was never certain what was being taught. Now don't get me wrong- I understand that it is just as much my job to offer Danica opportunities to learn at home... but was certain that what Danica was learning would be better absorbed if taught both at home and daycare. Other mommies I knew were being sent home with weekly/monthly curriculum sheets they could use to follow along at home, so I felt justified in my concerns that Danica wasn't learning as much as she could. So I moved her! Her new place was wonderful! Every month, they taught a shape, a color, and a number. Within only a couple of months (June), Danica could say 1, 2, and 3 in english and in spanish, she knew the colors red, blue, and green, and knew triangle and circle. It was absolutely amazing and I was so pleased. Her teacher, Brandy, was fantastic! She read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom to them everyday and went over the same things everyday. They even offered a bible lesson every Wednesday and since I've been singing Jesus loves me and Jesus loves the little children, I am thrilled that her preschool is teaching her about our Lord! By July, Danica could tell you the name of every child in her class, including a little girl named Abigail (you'd think that was a hard name for a 1 1/2 year old to pronounce). In my next post, I'm going to list all the words she can now say. By June 2010, she could say around 50 words and the day she turned 22 months old, she sang the ABC song to me (she gets a little mixed up on the L, M, N, O, P part, though). She also started singing parts of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star and does the hand motions for up above the world so high and the diamond with her fingers. It is super cute!

At this point, Danica is at a preschool in Greenville that is just as wonderful (although I'm really going to miss Brandy)! Joe and I both took jobs in Greenville, put our house on the market, and are trying to make a big move back home. She started November 2010 and already knows the name of all her new friends. She also started Gymnastics in August 2010 and goes every Wednesday night. She has learned so much. When she started, she ran across the trampoline. Now she can jump across the trampoline! She can also hold herself up on a bar (with a little assistance of course) and balances herself on a balance beam really well. We are so proud of her. I can't wait to get her into a dance class!
