I glanced at a coloring sheet that was in Danica’s backpack
when we arrived home last Friday. I looked at it long enough to read that it
was due Tuesday and we could decorate the Scarecrow any way we would like. Forgot
all about it over the weekend- and on purpose- the way I typically respond to a weekend
break from school and work. Our weekends are certainly busy enough!
Maverick woke me up at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday and I was
thinking about that scarecrow before I got up to give him his bottle. My first
reaction was self-defeat- “how could I forget about the scarecrow? Am I an
awful mother that the scarecrow is not ready to go to school today? Is my child
the only one that will not get to showcase her scarecrow?” But then Danica woke
up and wanted to play! I asked her if she wanted to color and she responded
with an excited “YES”. So there we were, at 7:00 a.m. coloring a scarecrow. So he would really stand out, I grabbed froot loops for the hat trim, sleeves,
and pants. And daddy broke out the hot glue when the glue stick didn’t work!
Mr. Scarecrow went to school on time Tuesday! And I still made it to work by 8:00 a.m.! How awesome is that?!
I’ve got a story just like that regarding “Words for Jake”
that are due every Wednesday (and how we forgot all about them one Tuesday
night so I wrote them and cut them after she went to bed- all while I was
relaxing in the tub)! Yes, I’m THAT Mom!
Somehow, it all works out. I call that God’s
Grace!
