Christmas is special every year, but it's particularly special this time since this will be the first Christmas in our new house. AND it's special because Maverick is a walker this year and he is fascinated by all the lights and holiday decor! I've already lost 4 balls on my tree!
We decorated Thanksgiving weekend and throughout the week after. It took me the entire weekend to trim the tree, so I had to use the weeknights to decorate the staircases (inside and out) with lights and get the hubs to put my wall decor up. I was fine when it was done, but apparently decorating the tree just once wasn't enough as Danica moves ornaments just about everyday! I admire her desire to relive the same moments over and over- and all the extra time and patience she has to do just that! All while I'm secretly plotting ways I can get the tree magically decorated without ever having to touch it. Bless her!
Nana bought Danica a new advent calendar- but this one is a house with little doors. I have a magnetic one we put on the refrigerator. Each number gets covered with a cute Christmas themed magnet. Easy enough, right?! The new one requires a lot more effort and I'm already stressed out about what little gift to put in it each day. So far, it's been just candy because the space is so small and candy is the only thing that fits. I don't really want to feed her candy everyday, but the alternate is tiny little dollar tree trinkets that I certainly do not like collecting. And believe me, she has enough chapsticks, lip balms, and nail polish! I know I could have chosen the "to do" route and suggested events or books instead. Since she can't read yet, I didn't think it would be as exciting to get a note and have to track down someone to read it. Maybe I'll try it and see what happens.
We have been doing all the fun Christmas stuff I would suggest, though! We've been watching Christmas themed movies, looking at Christmas lights when we are out at night, singing Christmas songs, and talking about our Savior. We also took Danica to see Nutcracker. Joe and I saw it years ago, but it was truly more special this year since we took our daughter for the first time- and knew some of the dancers personally! The older sister of one of her sweet friends was in it, as well as her Preschool Director and her daughter (who played Clara).
This past weekend, we took Danica to see Disney on Ice! We've never seen it so all of us were excited to go. We went with friends who also have a daughter Danica's age. They had such a fun time together watching their favorite princess, Ariel, and sharing popcorn.
Now it's time to get my shopping done! I ordered a few things online on Black Friday, but still have a long way to go. Thursday is our last day at work, so Joe and I plan to get a lot done while Mema keeps the kids on Friday. Danica is asking for dolls and toys from Disney's new movie, Frozen. I should be excited that she has moved on to a new princess- but I bought Little Mermaid stuff for Christmas, so don't put her away just yet! LOL!
Merry Christmas Everyone!
