The Christmas Eve service at our church was wonderful. "Follow the Star" was the theme. Our pastor talked about the feelings of different men who had heard about the birth of the Messiah. Some were angry at the idea and felt threatened, some were unemotional and didn't feel any particular way about it, but for some, this was a miracle birth and he was Savior. The traveled afar to see him; to fall down on their knees in awe of him. This was Good News, for he changed the world! And since our pastor encouraged church members to make the choice to follow him, if they had not made the decision to do so already, it was such a powerful message. What a wonderful way for non-believers to see Christmas in a new light! What do you celebrate if you don't celebrate Jesus?
And although it's hard for little ones not to get so wrapped up in the toys and the gifts, I still work hard to teach my little ones what Christmas is all about. And it helps that Danica goes to a Christian school. Their Christmas play was centered around Jesus' birth and the true meaning of Christmas!
Christmas day was so exciting! Even Maverick was excited to see all the gifts under the tree; especially since we didn't put ANY gifts under the tree until they went to bed Christmas Eve because Maverick kept tearing the wrapping paper. LOL...
Maverick's favorite gift was probably the ball pit or the talking farm that Mema gave him. Danica asked Santa for Frozen dresses and dolls, so those were her favorite. She wears the Elsa dress just about everyday and is awe of the magical wand that plays "Frozen" music.
However, she is equally in love with the Little Mermaid storybook set that we gave her. It came with all of the characters (which means she now has about 10 Ariels). So now she has King Triton, Prince Eric, and Ursula and now when we play, I get the big task of being all of them (because she is Ariel, of course). Thank goodness she has an Ariel with legs and one without so she can transition to and from the human world. What in the world would we do if she could not transform into a human and marry Prince Eric?!
So Christmas was also nice since we decided to cook lunch at home. We spent 3 Christmas' with Mema when we lived with her, so we've become accustomed to eating with them. So we invited them over for a non-traditional Christmas lunch of... RIBS! It was awesome. It gave the kids time to play with their toys and enjoy lunch at home before we traveled to see other family.
When the time came to make visits, we went to see my dad and his wife's family and then we spent Christmas dinner with Nana and Gan Gan's family.
We were missing one important person this Christmas, though. Travis was unable to come home- he got a new job! He is working for a Christian movie company in Arizona called Pure Flix. We missed him, but we are so proud of him!
