Danica has been doing some new things lately, so I decided it’s time to update my blog. I’m so excited to announce that Danica is finally using the potty more frequently. I even put her in panties when I know we are going to be home and ready for a change when she has accidents. I’ve been trying to run her back and forth to the potty so I don’t miss an opportunity. This past Sunday at church, she even told her teacher she had to go and used the potty! And that’s big! I’m super excited for her! No better way to make a toddler feel like a big girl.
Talk of her being a big girl reminds me of a new thing she is does during car trips. She reaches for the ceiling and says, “I can’t reach it, I’m a little girl.” Then she asks me to reach it and gets excited when I do it. It is so funny. She also asks me if I’m ok anytime I cough or clear my throat. This usually happens in the car, but when we are home and she can stand right next to me, she’ll even put her hand on my shoulder when she asks.
Her vocabulary has really increased. I couldn’t tell you how many words she is able to say now because she can say anything she hears. AND SHE WILL! So we have to be careful about what we say. She’s been forming sentences since before she turned 2. But what used to be 2-3 word sentences are now more. For example, she can now say, “I can’t reach it”, but she used to say, “I reach”.
She’s getting better with her songs, too. If she doesn’t know all the words of a song, she’ll wait to say the word at the end of the verse. For example, when I sing, “Jesus loves the little…” she’ll say, “children”. Then she’ll say “world”, “sight”, and then, “yes, Jesus loves me, the bible (be be) so.” I am determined to ask Joe to record us one night right before bed when I read and sing songs to her. The way she gets involved is so fun.
Danica is starting to understand feelings. When someone is crying, she says they are crying because they are sad. Even after she cries, she tells me for DAYS about crying because she was sad. She recently tripped over a box at church and got a big bruise on her “tooshy” but her account of that incident went like this, “I crying, I sad, I hurt (cha) leg.” That was two weeks ago and she still told me about it last night- especially when she sees a picture of someone crying in one of her books. She’ll point out any character in a book that is crying to tell me they are crying and are sad, so I take the opportunity to tell her why they are sad. It’s not just sad/crying, though, she also points out happy and funny faces. She is really into happy, sad, and funny faces. She loves to make funny faces in the car and say, “Mommy, I funny.”
She loves loves loves Ballerinas! She loves to twirl like a ballerina and loves to wear dresses, skirts, and pajamas that have ruffles at the bottom of the shirt and pants, so she can tell you she is a Ballerina and twirl. And when mommy wears a skirt or a dress, she gets to be a Ballerina, too. She even says, “mommy’s a ballerina, too”. The last time she said that, she was wearing jeans and a tee-shirt, so I said, “oh, are you a ballerina today.” She looked at me, looked at her clothes, looked back at me, and said, “yeah” with a super big smile. I told her that she didn’t have to wear fancy clothes to be a ballerina, all you have to do is twirl and we twirled.
There are so many new things it’s hard to keep up. I want to document as many as I can. I think about all the sweet things she does and worry that I will forget them. Thank goodness for blogging!
