Today’s SUYL topic is “Ideas for Mother/Father’s Day”. In the past, Joe and I have given our parents things like books, cook books, gift Cards, flowers/plants, etc. Since we had Danica, I love giving them a little touch of her. I know it’s hard for grandparents to take and keep photo albums of their grandchildren, so I give them photo albums documenting Danica’s milestones. I’ve been using Shutterfly to create their books. They offer so many different styles of books, backgrounds, and include text. Adding text is my favorite part because it allows me to tell a story about the pictures I choose for the book. I love documenting special dates, her age at the time something special happens, and all of her favorite things to do and say. It takes a little extra time to create a Shutterly book as opposed to buying one and filling it with 4x6 photos, and a little more expensive, but it’s worth the $30 you pay (sometimes less if you have a discount code). Each one I’ve made has been super cute. My dad was especially impressed. When I gave him his first book, he looked at it over and over and just raved about how neat it was and how far photography and scrapbooking have come.
Since we give both sets of our parents Shutterfly books, I take time creating each one a bit different so I’m documenting events that are special to them. Mema (Joe’s mom) especially likes photos that include her parents and Joe’s brother, Travis (college aged). Her parents are in their 80’s, so it’s getting tougher for them to get around, but they love their time with Danica. And Danica just loves playing with her Uncle Travis, so it’s fun including special moments of them that I know Mema will cherish for a lifetime.
I’m currently working on two more. With Mother’s Day right around the corner, I know all of them are eagerly anticipating their next story book. If you’ve never tried it and would like to check it out, go to www.shutterfly.com. You’ll have to set up an account, but once you do, you can begin uploading photos and creating memories! Good luck!
