The Big Move

We’ve been busy moving! We found a place to stay until our house is sold… so we moved out of Joe’s parent’s house this past weekend. We’ve been asked to house sit for Travis’ girlfriend’s (Chelsea) family who moved to Arizona a couple of years ago. As a matter of fact, Travis and Chelsea just moved to Arizona in May and will be finishing up their college degrees at Arizona State University. Although we miss them terribly, we couldn’t be happier for them! What an awesome opportunity for both of them.

In the meantime, they still haven’t sold their house here in Greenville- so Joe and I moved in and will keep it up for them while they are gone. Since we haven’t sold our house yet, either… it certainly is a blessing from God that both of our families are able to help each other make these transitions. And it certainly was a blessing that Joe’s parents welcomed us to stay these past 8 months. If it were not for them, we would still be doing a lot of commuting between Franklinton, Chapel Hill, and Rocky Mount.

Other than that, life continues as normal. We are in the middle of new student orientations at PCC. I'm hosting a couple of career exploration workshops for undecided students. I also started a new group at Covenant. They are hosting a 6-week bible study on The Purpose Driven Life.  It’s a video/workbook study. I’m really excited about it. Joe is busy supervising an Environmental Health Intern at ECU and Danica always keeps us entertained with all of her energy.

Speaking of Danica’s energy… she never took a nap yesterday. And she’s been a bit fussy right before bedtime. I can’t decide if it had to do with her lack of nap (or very late nap on Saturday) or if it is a result of confusion as a result of the move. We’ve been talking to her about the move for a couple of weeks now to help prepare her. She seems to be happy out there. They loves to play on their wrap-around porch and Joe took her fishing at the pond near their house. She actually held a fish. I wish I had a picture, but Joe didn’t take the camera. I told him I would go next time so I can take some.

I do want to make some notes about Danica to keep for later. Some new things she says now include, “because” when I ask her why, she’ll tell you every dress she wears is her “favorite dress”, she says, “I didn’t mean to mommy” when she hurts herself or does something wrong.

Some of her new favorite songs to sing are, “1,2, Buckle my shoe”, “It’s raining, it’s pouring, the old man is snoring” (then she tells me we need an umbrella in the rain), “Three Blind Mice” (I didn’t teach her the knife part-I leave that out), and Barney’s “I love you” song. I’ve been these songs and more since she was born, but I love how now that she can talk, she loves to sing them to me!

This weekend was also Father’s Day weekend. After lunch with his mom on Friday, I took Joe shopping for new shoes. Danica’s preschool hosted an ice cream party for dads on Friday afternoon. Then, Danica and I took him to O’Charley’s for breakfast on Saturday to help support the REAL Crisis Center’s Father’s Day Breakfast Fundraiser.  I also picked up lunch on Sunday after church since we were busy unpacking and cleaning. Happy Father’s day to the best daddy Danica could ever ask for!
