Let Freedom Ring- It's Independence Day!

In honor of Independence day- I’m going to document what I’m into these days. I see this often on the blogs I read. I imagine the readers are making notes for future keepsakes, recommending products to their friends, or just simply taking a moment to reflect on the things they like to do when in the hustle and bustle of their busy schedules, they fear they don’t know who they are anymore. Moms are so busy taking care of little ones- it’s so easy for us to forget the things that make us tick or even worse, failing to do them all together. And think about what you might teach your children when you neglect yourself! Moms need to celebrate their independence, too- it’s what created their families in the first place. Here are some of my favorite things to do:

My Bible Study- Covenant is hosting a 6-week long bible study entitled, “40 days of Purpose”. We are watching Rick Warren’s video and making notes in our Purpose Driven Life workbooks. My group is so much fun. There are 12 of us, which makes for interesting discussions. It really is amazing how God loves us, wants us to desire a relationship with him, wants us to invite him into our lives, and give him the glory in EVERYTHING we do. It’s all for you, father. I know you are for me and I trust you.

Zumba- I’ve been running over a year now and ran two 5k’s in the spring. Other than my 5k’s and a couple of times I ran with my friend, Lisa, I’ve only ran on the treadmill at Champions (where I work out). I got bored, so I started taking Zumba. Joe’s cousin, Elizabeth, teaches it and she’s awesome! I have so much fun learning the dance routines and I get such a great workout. I wish she would teach it more than once a week. I could Zumba everyday!

Rose’s Gymnastics- Danica started her summer class a couple of weeks ago and no one from her previous class signed up. Some of them moved on to the Little Flipper class for three year olds (like Gracie- Miss her!). Danica was the youngest in her class, so she wasn’t able to move up, yet. But she is in a class with children who are most likely going to be in the same grade level and it’s so fun making new friends.

1 o’clock Fridays- Pitt Community College closes at 1:00 p.m. on Fridays over the summer. It means 30 minute lunches every other day, but it’s worth it. When I leave work, I go to the gym. Then I pick Danica up early and take her to my dad’s house to play. Sometimes we even pick up a treat before we go to dads. I’m in love with the idea that you can go to Your Perfect Cake and purchase just two cupcakes and we love, love, love Peppermints Frozen Yogurt!

Kellogg’s Fruit Crisps- One for me and one for Danica every morning on the way to school/work.  I only eat breakfast bars or cereal for “weekday” breakfast and I love these! I used to eat both crisps (100 calories for both), but I like to share with Danica!

Vanilla Diet Coke from Sonic- I even opt out of ice cream when I’m there with Danica. They are so good and Happy Hour makes them even better!

Danica’s bedtime routine- I love reading books and singing with Danica. It really is the best way to end the day. And it’s the perfect time for tickles, hugs, and kisses. After we read, Danica says a prayer. I turn out the light and lay with her until she falls asleep. Sometimes she asks for daddy to lie down, too.

I also love the beach and we are going to the beach this weekend to celebrate America gaining her independence! Ironic, isn't it? That America had to fight for her independence before she could teach her children to fight for theirs. What a wonderful lesson for all parents!

I hope all of you have a wonderful holiday and that each of you will do something to celebrate you this weekend! Happy Birthday America!
