Hurricane Irene and Wordful Wednesday

Hurricane Irene hit Eastern NC on Saturday, August 27. Mema and I had a Pampered Chef Party planned. Needless to say, we cancelled by Thursday as news reports indicated that the Category 2 hurricane would be a Category 3 by the time it hit NC. We stayed with Mema since the lot we were on had a lot of trees. We lost power at around 6:00 a.m. on Saturday and did not get power again until Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Danica did really well. She asked to watch t.v. and go outside. I tried to keep her entertained as much as I could. We played games and read books. Joe and I played a couple of games of Scrabble when Danica was napping. And we ate a lot of chips and dip!

There was a lot of damage in Pitt County and several areas were out of power for a week or more. Trees are down and some houses were hit really hard. Schools were closed (as well as PCC and ECU) for two days while crews worked to repair the damage. Governor Perdue even visited Pitt County on Thursday.

The lot we were on really suffered so we are staying with Mema so Chelsea's family can see the damage and make plans for repairs. They drove in from AZ late Monday night, so Chelsea came over to eat dinner with us last night. It was really good to see her. Travis couldn't come, but we'll get to see both of them again for Christmas.

We vacationed in Franklinton for Labor Day weekend. We went to our house to do some cleaning and some yard work. For fun, we took Danica to Crabtree Valley Mall to do some shopping. Baby Gap is by far my favorite toddler clothes store. I think their clothes are so much cuter than Gymboree! However, we did buy an outfit from Gymboree and even decided to go ahead and buy her Halloween Costume there, too, since they marked everything down an additional 30%. She is going to be a Peacock! I know, I know- I said earlier that she is dressing up as a cowgirl. A couple of months ago, she was really into cowgirls, but it was short lived. Her love for fairies and ballerinas has been pretty consistent and to her, the peacock costume looks like a fairy- so I'm going to call her a Peacock Fairy.

Since Wednesday is supposed to be Wordful Wednesday (and I haven't posted one for a couple of weeks), I want to share a Danica Funny. Danica has known her name since she was 18 months. She always referred to herself in 3rd person, "Danica's baby", "Danica's milk", etc. I then taught her a neat conversation starter on the playground, "My name is Danica". It was always funny, because once she said it, she would say it over and over- even while she was walking away from the child she introduced herself to. When we put the house up for sale and moved in with Mema, Mema introduced her to Carrie Underwood videos on You Tube. I used this opportunity to introduce Danica to her middle name, which is Carrie. She was so excited to have the same name as Carrie Underwood, it stuck right away. I am now trying to teach her to say her whole name. When we ask her, she replies, "My name is Carrie Sutton Danica". How funny is that!?
