August 2013

We started August with swim lessons for Danica! A few of our friends have pools, and we noticed that Danica was starting to get a bit braver- jumping in the pool from the side and jumping off the diving board. We knew it was time. And we also booked a late August vacation to Great Wolf Lodge- so we wanted her to be swim ready!

Maverick continues to grow and is getting more curious by the day. He is still pulling up and cruising, but no sign of walking, yet. I can’t believe he has been pulling up since he was around 6 months old- even before he was crawling- and he still hasn’t let go. No worries, though; he’s probably my last baby, so I don’t want to rush him out of this super sweet stage! We’ve been feeding him a bit of table food. I’m still feeding him, so it really isn’t enough to ween him; but he really isn’t into baby food. We noticed that he was getting bored with it- 3 bites and he was done. I even tried Stage 2, but he is just not interested. He likes bread, fruit, potato, pasta, green beans, peas, and some meats. Mema has even been giving him grits for his breakfast and he loves them. We are trying to be careful, though, we wouldn’t have dreamed of feeding Danica from our own plate until she was a year old. She loved her baby food. Amazing how different babies from the same mommy and daddy can be!
Mema is trying to find different things to do with them while they are home with her each day. She takes them to the library each week for story time. She took them to a movie. It was Danica's first time at the movies and they saw Yogi Bear. She also likes to take them to Nana and Gan Gan's house, to her friends house, and to the farm so they can see Granny. She took them to River Park North and to Paramore park a few times. And I've discovered that they like to frequent the McDonald's drive thru so they can each get a drink and some apple slices :) Here are a couple of pictures from Mema's phone:

We ended August with a trip to Great Wolf Lodge and had a blast! We took Mema with us- so Joe and I can have dinner out and well, she really needed a vacation! We made her bring her bathing suit and forced her down a water slide. She was like a kid in a candy store. Having a Mema that will participate and not just “sit” is AWESOME! She has such a fun personality- we are so lucky!
Danica went down several waterslides as well. I don’t think I was ready for that. I thought we would need to watch her in the kiddie pools and find toddler size slides for her. I wasn’t prepared for how grown up she was out there. She didn’t go down the biggest slide, but she went down some big ones. My gal is growing up for sure. And Maverick did great! He loved playing in the “splash park” part of the lodge and loved getting in the outdoor pool.
Before we headed home, we hit the Premium Outlets so I could update the kid’s wardrobe! Danica is wearing size 5T and Maverick is in size 12-18 months. Fall weather is coming- I want to be prepared! We even bought a couple of things for mommy and daddy, too!
We came home to ECU Football! We took the kids with us to tailgate and then Mema kept them so Joe and I could go to the game. It was a night game. I LOVE night games! It just makes sense. High school football games were most always on Friday nights. There is nothing like fall evenings at a good football game. And the weather for ECU’s first game was wonderful! GO PIRATES AND...
WELCOME FALL!
