Week of the Young Child

In celebration of the "Week of the Young Child", Danica's daycare is hosting a spirit week. It's been so much fun getting her ready in the morning since they've asked the kids to follow daily themes. Monday was hat day. It seems easy, but Danica doesn't wear hats often, so I was nervous that she would not wear one. But she loved the hat I picked out for her and wore it proudly. Tuesday was tough. Not because we couldn't find anything Danica could wear, but because it was Preschool t-shirt day and all the kids were asked to wear the t-shirt or sweatshirt they purchased from the center before we started. So we didn't have one. They didn't have any extra, so I was disappointed that Danica wouldn't get to participate. Monday evening went as usual for us. We read books before bedtime and I fell asleep with her. The next morning, Joe presented a t-shirt that HE MADE for her to wear to preschool. It was beautiful! Apparently, he asked his mom to make a run to Target to find a white tee-shirt and some fabric paint. Needless to say, he went to bed late Tuesday night. But it couldn't have been more perfect. I fell in love with him all over again! I mean, how many daddy's would think to paint a shirt so their child can participate in a school event. My hubby, that's who! It seems he was just as disappointed as I was that she wasn't going to get to participate- so he unleashed his creative side! Good work honey!

Today, we sent her to school in her pajamas! Tomorrow, she gets to wear her Pirate cheerleader dress! And Friday, parents are invited to eat pizza! It's really been a fun week!

On another note, I've noticed lately how often Danica calls Joe, "honey". I call him "honey" all the time, so I know she picked it up from me, but it's been funny as she has started calling him that all the time. She likes to have a drink of water when we are reading books at bedtime and last night I forgot to grab it. So when Joe walked out of the room, Danica called out, "Honey, come back, I want some water." We died laughing, it was so funny (don't worry, we did ask her to say please).

Danica loves to make all kinds of noises- you know the kind. Not necessarily animal noises, but those random noises that children often make with thier mouths/tongue. Danica makes all kinds of noises, she thinks it's so funny. She always asks me to join her with, "Mommy, your turn." It's especially funny when she uses her funny noises to hum songs she knows. I'll never forget the first time a couple of weeks ago when she did the ABC song with a noise she was making with her tongue. I sang the song as she did it and she just laughed and laughed.

Did I mention she is also playing soccer now. If I did, I probably talked about how horrible the first day was. She refused to play and cried so hard because she wanted to play on the playground. We made the big mistake of letting her swing before practice. She threw a fit when we took her away. I was worried about what that might mean for this past weekend and spent all week talking to her about soccer, practicing soccer, and promising the swing AFTER soccer. It worked! She played this weekend and had a wonderful time. She is the smallest on her team, but really proved that she could keep up! We are so proud of her! We took her out to lunch and then to Pirate Fest to celebrate! She got her face painted and made a pirate hat. The day couldn't have been more perfect. Well, except the weather of course, but who notices the weather when you are having a good day with a 2 year old?!
