6 Months

Maverick is 6 months old! Holy smokes! Where did my little baby go? My 6 month old is doing so good! He is such a happy baby; so laid back. And he doesn’t fuss much. He’s actually the happiest in the morning. When he wakes up, I can put him on his play mat while I take a shower. He likes to roll, so I put pillows around him and shut the door to my room (the new house has stairs). He just plays and plays. Then he gets his breakfast, plays, sleeps, and then his bottle. He is now eating baby food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner…and we have started giving him some puffs. We’ve been supplementing him with formula since he was about 3 months old, but I’m still breastfeeding. I just can’t keep up with him- he’s growing so fast! He is on the move- backwards! He is trying so hard to crawl, but it hasn’t happened yet. We suspect he’s getting close, though. He also can’t sit without support; but we’ve been able to put him in a highchair. His little noises are the sweetest! He coos and laughs- he really is such a good baby!

We brought out the Baby Einstein Jumper a little while ago. We took it outside on the back porch on Mother’s Day because it was so nice outside. We put him in the shade and he just played and played. I’ve been video camera happy as I’m really trying to capture the sweet noises he makes and his super smiley face. He’s such a cutie pie. I’m lucky he’s so laid back- he can’t seem to keep a toy in his hand when Danica is around. Although she is good in the car; I’ve warned her that if she doesn’t give him a toy to play with, he will scream the whole way home. And since she has heard him cry, she’ll share her toys with him. So funny!

Maverick gets fussy at 8:00 p.m. every night. That’s his bedtime. When 8:00 p.m. rolls around, he is ready to go night-night. As a matter of fact, if the time comes and I haven’t changed his diaper and put him in his pajamas already, he will fuss at me when I’m trying to do it. He’s the most predictable baby I’ve had- that’s for sure. Or maybe it’s because we’ve done this sort of thing before- who knows?! He still likes to be held a lot and will fuss in the evening when you put him down. He is so ready to be mobile, so he uses us to move him around. Such a smart boy (I know, what baby doesn’t do that, but just go with it). And I call him “buddy”. Joe doesn’t like it, but Maverick loves it. When I say, “hey buddy”, I get the sweetest.smile.ever! He loves his mommy! He loves to dance with me and I love to sing “Take Me out to the Ballgame” to him. We have so much fun together!

We decided to just send Joe and his mom to Arizona. The kids and I stayed home. We just bought a house, so we’ve got to be bit tighter with our money. We love our new home! And Danica loves her new room. We bought her brand new bedroom furniture and new décor for her wall. She also wants me to make her bathroom a mermaid theme, so I’m looking into mermaid décor. She and Maverick share a bath, but for now, he won’t care. And in attempt to get her to take baths in her own bathtub (I have a whirlpool), I’m going to decorate it any way she likes! LOL…

So I took off work and spent the entire week with the kids while Joe and his mom were in Arizona. I had the kids 24 hours for 7 days. We did some fun things. I took the kids to the strawberry farm, the park, Yoders (to see the baby chicks), playdates, and we ate out for just about every meal. With two kids alone- there was no cooking…or cleaning…I was lucky to get a shower. And even though Danica and I fussed a bit (she’s a little strong willed and loves to get her way), it was a great week with my babies! I’m back to work and missing them already. One- I wish I could stay home and Two- I truly don’t know how single parents do it. Joe came home and sent me to do something by myself for Mother’s Day and then I went to a paint class with Cindy Tuesday night since she is in town for a conference! We’ve also made friends with our neighbors across the street and ate dinner with them last night. They are so fun and have a 3 year old little girl that loves Danica! How great is that!

We really love our new neighborhood. There are so many kids and it is convenient to everything. We pulled Danica out of school for the summer and she is home with Mema and Maverick. We signed her up for summer camps at ballet in June and July and will be going to gymnastics as well. Then she will start a half day program at our church in the fall! And when Maverick is old enough, I’m going to put him in a half day program as well. We are so lucky to have Mema watching the kids. They have so much fun together and I know Mema enjoys the time she gets to spend with them too.

Danica has quite an imagination lately. Her favorite “pretend” play is getting married to a prince, but she seriously bosses her prince around. One day I caught her peeking into the hall from my bedroom and called out, “prince, are you finished getting dressed yet?” It was hilarious! Another day at the park, I caught her walking really fast while she called out, “Come on Prince, let’s go get married.” She is a mess for sure!

We are getting ready for Danica’s first ballet recital. The dress rehearsal is today and her performance is on Sunday. She has the cutest little costume and is so excited about it! She’s been dancing around the house for weeks. Her favorite movie right now is Barbie and the Pink Shoes and we’ve all watched it at least 100 times! She’s already asking for a ballerina birthday party months ahead and demands we call her Odette (the name of the ballerina in the movie). Fun times for sure!
