Danica's June

We pulled Danica out of school for the summer so she can spend time with Mema and Maverick. We weren't sure about it at first- we certainly didn't want her to be in the house all day everyday with nothing to do while Mema was caring for a baby. So we looked into some summer camps and activities that she could do at least half the day to get her out of the house. In June, we signed Danica up for Vacation Bible School at our church AND at Mema's church. When we promised her she could go to both, we did not realize both were scheduled for the same week. Our church hosts VBS during the day, while VBS at Mema's church is at night. She still wanted to go to both, so we let her. That certainly was a busy week for her, but she loved it! We also signed her up for a ballet camp a couple of weeks later. The theme of the camp was fairies and fireflies. There were 7 girls in the class. They all dressed up in fairy costumes, danced, watched Peter Pan, and made fairy wings. She had a lot of fun. She is going to do the Princess for a Day camp in July as well.

We also bought her a pool and put it on the deck. That way, Mema can take Maverick outside, too, when Danica wants to play in her pool. I try really hard to restrict t.v. watching, but we do get her videos that she can watch in the afternoon. She is really into anything barbie, princess, fairy, and her new favorite- Dr. Seuss films. We recently watched The Lorax and Horton Hears a Who.

Danica amazes me everyday. Her vocabulary is soaring and she is using new words everyday. I always said I was not scared to use big words around her and I am so glad I do. Once she understands the meaning, she really uses them. I'm not talking about off the wall words you only see in the local newspaper crossword puzzle- I've just noticed she is comfortable using grown up language like saying something is "horrible" or "terrible" instead of saying it's bad or saying she isn't "comfortable" instead of telling me something doesn't feel good to her. She says "seriously" a lot, too! We laugh every time she says, "Serious mommy? You must be kidding man!"  Another funny is when I ask her something and she says, "sort of". I guess she hears us say that a lot! LOL! And she loves to tell me when something is "disgusting".

Another thing to note here is that Danica refuses to wear anything other than a dress and that includes both pajamas and daytime clothes. What's worse is that she is attached to ONE particular nightgown and ONE particular dress. I got tired of seeing the ONE dress that she wore most of June, so I bought her a new dress this past weekend. It's Wednesday and she has literally worn it EVERYDAY since I bought it for her on Saturday!

I try so hard to change things up and play anything other than barbies. She wants to play barbies all the time. We even play barbies in the bathtub. She has talked me into letting her put a couple of barbies in the bathtub to play with. I'm not good at "talking" barbies, but my favorite is when she wants to re-enact a scene from one of her movies. She loves the scene in Barbie Mermaid when the fish asks Kiley to steal Merlia's necklace- mainly because she wants her to jump in the water and say, "I wish to become a mermaid" and then pretend she can't breathe under water. When the fish tells her that she can breathe underwater and Kiley takes a breath, the fish says something that alludes to Kiley have stinky breath. I can't make out exactly what the fish is saying in the movie, but Danica has interpreted it as "yuck, stinky poo". And we just laugh and laugh when she says it (so of course, she always wants to be the fish and me be Kiley so she can say it). She's a hoot, I tell ya!
